May Day 2010: All Over It

If you live in New York State and weren’t on the streets on Saturday in support of immigration reform, you’re one of the few.

The NYCLU took part in seven May Day events across the state: in Buffalo, Albion, Albany, Peekskill, New York City, Hempstead and the East End of Long Island. These events were part of more than 80 May Day events in 30 states across the country! Take that, tea partiers!

Coming days after Senate Democratic leaders released their blueprint for immigration reform legislation, the message across the state was the same: We need comprehensive immigration reform this year that protects civil rights and liberties.

In one of the largest May Day mobilizations in many years, religious leaders, civil rights advocates, community organizations and labor unions joined forces to stand up for workers’ rights and push for comprehensive immigration reform.
