State Supreme Court, New York County, Index No. 08 110557 (direct) This case challenges the NYPD’s refusal to disclose information about the role of race in police shootings. In October 2007, the NYCLU filed a Freedom of Information Law request with the NYPD for records identifying the race of everyone shot by police officers since January 1997. After months of stalling, the NYPD ultimately denied the request in May 2008. The NYCLU filed an Article 78 petition in State Supreme Court on Aug. 4, 2008.

S.D.N.Y. Index No. 08 CIV 4303 (direct) This case challenges the NYPD’s unlawful and unconstitutional stop-and-frisk policies and practices.

This case arises out of the concentration of poverty and the isolation of minority school children within the Rochester City School District (RCSD) and raises the question as to whether such racial isolation creates a cognizable legal claim for relief under the Education Article of the state Constitution.

Supreme Court, Nassau County, Index No. 30380/97 (direct). This lawsuit questions whether Nassau County’s tax assessment system for residences, based on 1938 market values, is racially discriminatory.

S.D.N.Y., Index No. 98 Civ. 8532 U.S. Court of Appeals, 2nd Cir., No. 02-7459 (direct). This was a class action discrimination suit alleging that the State’s failure to satisfy certain regulatory requirements designed to improve educational opportunity had a racially disparate impact upon children attending "high minority schools," in violation of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

E.D.N.Y., Index No. CV-04-0207 (direct). This case involves racial profiling and harassment by Nassau County police officers of South Asian high school students.
