LGBT Rights at the NYCLU
The NYCLU has been one of New York State's leading advocates for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) New Yorkers, working tirelessly to extend constitutionally guaranteed rights to citizens who are all too often the victims of hate crimes, workplace discrimination and marginalization. The NYCLU works on a local and state-wide level. We use a multi-pronged strategy of litigation, legislation, community organizing and public education, including trainings and hosting events.
Thanks to the active and aggressive participation of both LGBT and straight-identified New Yorkers, the NYCLU has made great strides in helping LGBT citizens and their families feel safe and free at work, at school and at home in their own neighborhoods.
