Stop Unchecked Government Spying!

January 16, 2007

It's time to put an end to illegal spying on Americans.

In 2002, President Bush issued a secret order authorizing the National Security Agency to wiretap Americans' phone calls and monitor their emails without seeking a court order.

Despite the administration's claims to the contrary, the warrantless surveillance program is plainly unconstitutional under the Fourth Amendment and illegal under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). A federal district court judge in Michigan so ruled in August of last year -- a tremendous victory for civil liberties.

But warrantless surveillance of Americans continues to grow.

Its time to tell Congress once and for all: unchecked government spying must end!
