State leaders are on the verge of passing Brittany's Law which would require all violent offenders to register with the state much like sex offenders do now...Melanie Trimble who serves as director for the Capital Regions Civil Liberties Chapter says the law is an unmitigated disaster that will drive offenders away from law enforcement and is a flawed appeal to public safety..."It causes problems because offenders like to settle close to home where that support is which would reduce the risk of recidivism" says Trimble. "We wish more of an effort would be put towards rehabilitative services such as counseling and other services that prove to lower that likelihood of repeat offenses."
