Full Charge Bookkeeper/Assistant Accountant

The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) is one of the nation's foremost defenders of civil liberties and civil rights. Founded in 1951 as the New York affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, the NYCLU is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization with six chapters and 48,000 members statewide. We are seeking to hire an experienced professional for a Bookkeeper/Assistant Accountant position.

Salary:
Commensurate with Experience

Summary of Position:
The Bookkeeper is responsible for A/P, Cash Receipts and Payroll along with special projects. This position reports to the Controller.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Process Accounts Payables: including check requests, invoices and purchase orders;
  • Daily Processing of cash receipts;
  • This position will work closely with the Raiser’s Edge Database Administrator;
  • Process and track petty cash;
  • Data entry of all A/P and Cash receipts in Fund EZ;
  • Process all Bank Reconciliations;
  • Process payroll (including set up of new employees) in ADP Payex;
  • File and maintain files for A/P, Cash Receipts & Payroll; and
  • Assist in preparing reports as required by Controller.

Qualifications:

  • This position requires good communication skills and an ability to work well with others as well as on one’s own;
  • Full Charge Bookkeeper with a minimum of 3 years experience;
  • A solid knowledge of Word and Excel is required;
  • Knowledge of Fund EZ (or if not, experience with similar software);
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus; and
  • Strong organizational skills
