The Suffolk County Legislature last year passed legislation creating a Hate Crimes Task Force was in response to the murder of Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorian immigrant who lived in Patchogue. The task Force's charge is to "examine the sources of racial tension in Suffolk County, to study and analyze the mechanisms used to report hate crimes in the County, and provide recommendations on current hate crime legislation."
The Suffolk County Chapter supported the Task Force's creation and now seeks to encourage chapter members, and all Suffolk residents, to attend the Task Force's public hearings to share their thoughts, concerns and opinions.
