Standing Up for Immigrant Families in Syracuse

Nearly 50 people came out in freezing weather for a noontime interfaith vigil for immigration reform in front of Senator Charles Schumer’s Syracuse office on February 2.
The NYCLU Central New York Chapter Activist Task Force, joining with the Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (ACTS) and other local immigration reform allies, sang, prayed, and spoke out about the importance of fair and humane immigration reform this year.

Annual Meeting 2009
On Sept. 17, the chapter held its Annual Meeting and Potluck Dinner at the home of author, attorney and women's rights advocate Karen DeCrow in Jamesville, near Syracuse.
Chapter Director Barrie Gewanter discussed upcoming Banned Books Week events, the chapter Activist Task Force's current focus on immigrants' rights and comprehensive immigration reform, and a few other current projects.
