Nassau County Gets it Rally On

It was a week of rallying!

Nassau Chapter members and volunteers spent Sunday, May 1 at the March for Immigrants’ Rights in Hempstead. The march was organized by The Workplace Project and co-sponsored by the NYCLU and many other immigrants’ rights organizations.

The march started and ended at the intersection of Fulton and Washington, where Chapter Director Samantha Fredrickson spoke out against the federal Secure Communities deportation program.

On Thursday, May 5, the Nassau Chapter participated in a Rally for Social Justice at Nassau Community College, a rally for immigrants’ rights and LGBT equality.

The event was led by student groups at Nassau Community, including The Pride Club and the Student Organization of Latinos. It was co-sponsored by the NYCLU and other local civil rights groups.

Chapter Director Samantha Fredrickson spoke as well as Osman Canales, co-founder of the Long Island Immigrant Student Alliance, who is also an active member of the NYCLU’s immigrants’ rights Activist Task Force.
