Letter: Stop Stop-and-Frisk (New York Post)

To the Editor:

In just three months, the NYPD stopped and interrogated enough completely innocent New Yorkers to fill the new Yankee Stadium three times over (“Face Facts on Frisks,” Heather Mac Donald, PostOpinion, May 19).

At a time when the police department has been forced to cancel its next Police Academy class and is threatening to pull beat cops from the street, New York City deserves better than to have its police officers waste their time on the disrespectful, racially targeted stop-and-frisk program.

The NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policy squanders more than just tax dollars and time. Over the past five years, it has cost more than 2 million innocent New Yorkers their dignity. This abuse must end.
