Lakrout v. New York Unified Court System
The American Civil Liberties Union, New York Civil Liberties Union, Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, Disability Rights New York, and the National Disability Rights Network filed an amicus brief in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals seeking to reverse a lower court decision to dismiss a case brought by a blind woman who was excluded from jury service because of her disability.
The case involves a blind woman, Emeline Lakrout, who sued the New York State Unified Court System after she was excluded from jury service because the court denied her accommodations for her disability. Her claims were dismissed by a federal district court, and Ms. Lakrout has filed an appeal in the Second Circuit to vindicate her rights.
