YH v. Aviles-Ramos
The NYCLU filed an amicus brief arguing that the current standard school districts use to suspend students is far too low and must be reconsidered. Instead, schools must adopt a standard that respects due process, and ends disproportionate discrimination against Black and brown students, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged students.
Schools should be helping students succeed, not shutting them out of class and locking the door behind them.
