Antony Gemmell is the NYCLU's Director of Detention Litigation and a Senior Staff Attorney in the legal department. In addition to leading the NYCLU's litigation to defend the civil rights and liberties of incarcerated New Yorkers, Antony advocates in a range of other subject areas, including disability rights, immigrants' rights, fair housing, and the First Amendment.
Before joining the NYCLU in 2019, Antony was a staff attorney at New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, where he litigated civil rights claims on behalf of immigrants and people with disabilities.
Gemmell holds a B.A. from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from Cornell Law School.
