More than 50 years after the Stonewall uprisings, LGBTQ New Yorkers continue to face injustices. Trans people, especially trans women of color, are routinely profiled, over-policed, and over-incarcerated. LGBTQ students contend with bullying alongside instruction that doesn’t reflect their identities. The Trump administration continues its efforts to rollback federal anti-discrimination protections.

The NYCLU fights for the dignity of LGBTQ New Yorkers. We work to defend and expand protections in the workplace, education, housing, and more. We seek an end to the criminalization of trans lives and the abuse of LGBTQ New Yorkers in prisons and jails. We advocate for state recognition of LQBTQ identities, push for comprehensive sex education that is inclusive of all students, and help LGBTQ New Yorkers to know their rights.
