Reproductive rights encompasses the right to be free from discrimination based on pregnancy. We have fought cases of workplace discrimination against pregnant people, including the case of a woman who was fired from a Catholic school because she was pregnant and unmarried, and the case challenging a policy in the Suffolk County Police Department that denied pregnant people “light duty” assignments, forcing them to take an unpaid leave or walk the beat without adequate protective equipment. RRP has also represented people who have been discriminated against for breastfeeding in public. We also work to ensure that pregnant and parenting teens are not subject to discrimination in school, that they have access to equal educational opportunities, and that they receive the services they need in order to finish school.
