NYCLU Briefing on Statewide Impact of Trump Order Against Muslims and Refugees

The New York Civil Liberties is hosting an information briefing call for the press on the impact and response to President Trump’s executive order across New York State. President Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 27 that suspended resettlement of Syrian refugees indefinitely, suspended all other refugee resettlement for 120 days, and banned the entry of nationals from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen for 90 days. The executive order went into effect immediately, and people were detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport last night. Tens of thousands of people participated in demonstrations and, following a challenge by the ACLU, a federal court judge issued a stay last night, temporarily preventing refugees and immigrants from being deported.
