The NYCLU is among 180 organizations and individuals from across the country that has signed the Dignity in Schools Campaign National Resolution for Ending School Pushout, which calls for an end to harsh discipline policies and law enforcement tactics in our schools. The resolution calls on school districts to implement positive alternatives that respect the dignity and rights of young people, allowing them to learn in a nurturing environment.

The resolution was released on Dec. 3 as states submitted applications for funding under the federal stimulus package that the U.S. Department of Education wants used to promote positive school climates and discipline.

National organizations, including the National Education Association, School Social Work Association of America, American Civil Liberties Union, and NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, have signed the resolution, as have state and local organizations from more than 40 states.
