NYCLU Questions Unsuitable Police Gear

The New York Civil Liberties Union has asked the NYPD to investigate an undercover police officer who was photographed wearing equipment bearing an apparent endorsement of violence against women. In light of recent, highly publicized episodes of domestic violence, such action by a police officer on duty is unacceptable. The photograph was taken of the officer during the recent Republican National Convention while he was riding an unmarked motor scooter. The officer's helmet bore the words: Loud Wives Lose Lives

The officer’s helmet bore the words:

Loud Wives
Lose Lives

Such language has no place on the person of a police officer who is on duty and is hired to uphold the law and protect the public against incidents including domestic violence” said Donna Lieberman, Executive Director of the NYCLU. “The NYCLU calls on the police department to make a full, public accounting of this action and to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The NYCLU has requested that NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelley order an investigation of the matter. The NYCLU believes all such message should be removed from the equipment of its on-duty police officers.
