NYCLU Rallies For Historic NY City Council Vote

The New York Civil Liberties Union will hold a news conference and rally on the steps of City Hall at 12 noon in support of passage of the Bill of Rights Defense Resolution, formerly known as Resolution 909-a. This important legislative action has the endorsement of 34 City Council members, including Speaker Gifford Miller and the bill’s primary sponsor, Councilman Bill Perkins, and over 95 organizations.

The resolution calls on government officials to uphold civil rights and civil liberties when prosecuting the “war on terrorism.” Passage of the resolution will mark the culmination of the work of thousands of New Yorkers and dozens of organization to put NYC on record as choosing liberty over fear. Some 240 localities nation-wide have passed similar resolutions.
