NYCLU Statement on NY City Council’s Amazon Hearing

NEW YORK – In response to comments made by Amazon representatives at the New York City Council hearing today regarding the company’s Rekognition product and ties to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the New York Civil Liberties Union issued the following statement from Executive Director Donna Lieberman: 

 

“Amazon shouldn’t be selling the Trump administration unproven, dangerous, and biased face recognition technology that is ripe for abuse. As the company prepares to move to Queens, a home to so many vibrant immigrant communities, Amazon has no business cashing in ICE’s targeting and harassment of New Yorkers.”
