NYCLU Unveils New Civil Liberties Voter Guide

The New York Civil Liberties Union today launched VoterGuideNY.com – its first-ever Civil Liberties Voter Guide to help New Yorkers make informed choices when they go to the polls next week to vote for congressional candidates.

The New York Civil Liberties Union today launched VoterGuideNY.com – its first-ever Civil Liberties Voter Guide to help New Yorkers make informed choices when they go to the polls next week to vote for congressional candidates.

The NYCLU sent a 12-question survey to all New York congressional candidates of every party. The questions covered a wide range of civil liberties-related issues, including reproductive rights, LGBT rights, privacy, women’s rights, torture, due process and immigrants’ rights.

“The outcome of this election could have an unprecedented impact on the civil rights and liberties of New Yorkers and all Americans,” said Donna Lieberman, NYCLU executive director. “Our guide is a tool to help voters understand where the candidates stand on issues central to protecting our freedom and liberty.”

A non-partisan organization, the NYCLU does not endorse candidates for public office. The voter guide presents the answers of the candidates who responded to the survey – 22 candidates, representing 15 congressional races across the state. The easy to navigate web site also includes sample questions on important civil rights and liberties issues for voters to ask congressional candidates at public forums or campaign stops.

Important note: VoterGuideNY.com is operated solely by the New York Civil Liberties Union Inc., a 501(c)(4) entity. The NYCLU is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization. We do not endorse any candidates for public office.

As bold as the spirit of New York, we are the NYCLU.
