Five talented performers have joined the cast of Broadway Stands Up for Freedom, the annual benefit concert of the New York Civil Liberties Union (the New York State affiliate of the ACLU), to be held Monday, July 22 at NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts.

New additions include Georgi James, starring on Broadway in Annie; 30 Rock’s Todd Buonopane; Rory O’Malley, opening soon in Nobody Loves You at Second Stage; Shaina Taub, featured in the new musical Natasha & Pierre & The Great Comet of 1912; and Godspell alum Grace Capeless.

“We’re thrilled that these talented performers are bringing all of their strengths to advancing the civil liberties of all New Yorkers,” said NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman. “We’re especially delighted that Georgi and Grace will add their amazing voices on a night when we at the NYCLU celebrate the promise of young people in New York.”

The cast includes Tony winners Tonya Pinkins (Jelly’s Last Jam, Caroline or Change) and Randy Graff (City of Angels); Tony nominees Celia Keenan-Bolger (Spelling Bee; Peter & the Starcatche), Kate Baldwin (Finian’s Rainbow) and Anthony Rapp (Rent); Julie Halston (Anything Goes), Nellie McKay (Threepenny Opera, Old Hats), Lisa Kron (Well), Zachary Prince (Baby, It’s You) and founding performer Liana Stampur with Clinton Curtis, among others.

Susan Blackwell ([title of show]) will host, Georgia Stitt (America’s Got Talent, Broadway Divas) debuts as music director, and Daniel Goldstein (Godspell) returns as director.

Proceeds from the show benefit the NYCLU’s youth programs, including its work with LGBT teenagers; its Teen Activist Project, which engages New York City teens as organizers and peer educators on civil rights and civil liberties issues; and its work to stop overly aggressive policing and zero-tolerance discipline in the city’s public schools.
