Battling the Backlash to Racial Justice in Schools

As the movement for racial justice in our country grows, so too does the backlash. In the last several months, many states have introduced or passed legislation banning discussion of race or racism in schools. The backlash to the movement for racial justice is upon us and the reactionary forces behind it have set their sights on our classrooms. Our country needs to acknowledge and reckon with its history of systemic racism — this includes being able to teach and talk about these concepts in our schools.
