Letter to Mayor de Blasio on the NYPD's Violence Against Protesters
The New York Civil Liberties Union wrote a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio to express grave concern over the New York Police Department’s escalating and abusive practices against protesters as well as the Mayor's failure to protect the constitutional rights of New York City residents.
We call on the Mayor to take swift and decisive action to stop the NYPD from wielding violent, aggressive, and dangerous tactics against New Yorkers who are lawfully exercising their right to engage in peaceful protest. Immediate action is necessary given the combination of the NYPD’s recent unacceptable and unlawful treatment of protestors, and the likelihood of mass demonstrations in the days following the forthcoming election.
