Letter to NYSED on Students With Disabilities and School Reopening
As school districts start the new academic year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) must plan with great care how to support students with disabilities and to meet their unique and urgent needs.
This letter outlines the foundational principles for disability education, recounts challenges students with disabilities experienced during remote learning in the spring, and offers policy recommendations to address the most urgent needs facing students with disabilities as they transition back to school. The NYCLU urges NYSED to act quickly to ensure our students receive the equal access to education to which they are entitled.
