Susan Gottehrer

Chapter Director, Nassau County

Susan Gottehrer is the Director of the Nassau County New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York State affiliate of the ACLU, and has been a life-long activist and part of the New York Civil Liberties family since 2006. 

She has done extensive lobbying on federal, state and local legislation, has led advocacy efforts to improve public defense in New York State, de-carceration, immigration rights, and police reform campaigns, and helps to lead the Nassau County Jail Advocates, fighting for the rights of incarcerated individuals. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Columbia University, a Master’s in Political Science from the New School for Social Research, and a Master’s in Public Administration/Policy Analysis from New York University. She teaches graduate courses in Government and Radical Social Movements at Pace University, Adelphi University, and Long Island University, has eight years of Public Relations experience, and has coached youth in creative problem-solving competitions.
