While abortion remains legal and available in New York, there are increasing, nationwide attacks on access to reproductive health care. New York must be an access state for all people seeking abortion.

By removing abortion from the state criminal code, the 2019 Reproductive Health Act was a critical first step to strengthening and protecting the right to abortion in New York. Still, access to care is too often pushed out of reach because of inadequate funding and support for the people who need care and those who provide it.

To make access to abortion a reality for all New Yorkers and those who are forced to seek care here, the NYCLU advocates for increased funding and affordable access to abortion care, hospital transparency regarding services provided, and safe access to comprehensive, quality reproductive health care facilities — free from violence or intimidation.
