Join the NYCLU’s Teen Activist Project with PEN America, American Booksellers Association, Authors Against Book Bans, American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE), and school librarians on Monday, December 8th at Union Square (17th St) to urge Governor Hochul to sign the Freedom to Read Act (S.1099/A.7777). Join us to stand for the right to read and protect the freedom to access books, stories, and histories in schools. Stories and histories about marginalized people are being censored nationwide. NY’s Freedom to Read Act will strengthen school libraries’ protections against censorship. Now is the time for Governor Hochul to sign New York’s Freedom to Read Act and set an example for schools across the country.
