Stand Up for First Amendment Rights: Rally for Rümeysa Öztürk

This Tuesday, the fight for free speech takes center stage in New York City — and we need to show up in force.

Oral arguments will be heard in the case of ACLU and CLEAR client Rümeysa Öztürk, a Ph.D student at Tufts University and a child development researcher, who was unjustly arrested by ICE and is being threatened with deportation for simply co-authoring an op-ed.

Rümeysa’s case is about more than just her. It’s about all of our First Amendment rights to speak out and to express one’s opinions without fear of retaliation by the government, regardless of immigration status.

That’s why we need you  to join us outside the courthouse for a rally and press conference.

  • WHERE: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, located in the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse located at 40 Centre Street (40 Foley Square), New York, NY 10007.
  • WHEN: Tuesday, May 6th at 10 AM
  • WHAT: Rally and press conference in support of Rümeysa Öztürk

RSVP now and join us to show solidarity and demand justice. Our presence sends a clear message: we will not tolerate the suppression of our First Amendment rights, and we demand that Rümeysa Öztürk must be freed.

Accessibility: The ACLU strives to create inclusive and accessible events. If you need accommodations to participate, please contact info@peoplepower.org.

As bold as the spirit of New York, we are the NYCLU.
