The Reemergence of Pronatalism: A Threat to Gender and Racial Equity

Join NYCLU on September 27, 2026 for Street Work Earth, a festival bringing together artists, neighbors, & change-makers to co-create art and explore how we can care for our planet and each other. Street Works grew from the belief that joyful experiences of democracy can spark community-led action, and that artists are uniquely equipped to design those pathways.
The NYCLU will host an interactive table to share our Reparations work and engage community members in conversations and creative outlets to learn what it means to repair generations of harm and build a more just future. Reparations work examines how policy and planning decisions over generations have shaped environmental inequities. Today, nearly 70% of Black New Yorkers live in state-designated environmental justice or disadvantaged communities, where residents continue to experience higher levels of pollution and other environmental burdens. Understanding this history is an important part of understanding what meaningful environmental justice and climate action should look like today.
