Unorthodox Education Screening and Talkback

Join the NYCLU and Young Advocates for Fair Education (YAFFED) for a screening of Unorthodox Education on Thursday, September 17th at 6pm at the Producers’ Club. Unorthodox Education, a 40-minute documentary created by Jewish filmmakers, lifts the curtain on schooling in Hasidic and Haredi communities, through interviews with people who have left the ultra-Orthodox world as well as journalists, academics, and advocates, revealing the human cost of actively depriving kids of a secular education while chronicling a decade-long political struggle for these children.

Following the film, there will be a short panel, featuring Donna Lieberman, NYCLU’s executive director, Adina Mermelstein, executive director of YAFFED, and the filmmakers. The talkback will be a time to ask questions, get updates, and delve deeper into this complex issue.
