USE OF FORCE DATA

In the three year period between 2013 and 2015, the Albany Police Department filed 703 Use of Force Reports. This is equivalent to an annual rate of two use of force incidents per three officers. Of those against whom force was used, 39% were reported to have sustained an injury or needed medical attention.

While the number of use of force reports filed decreased in this three-year period, racial disparities among those against whom force was used increased. Black and Hispanic people accounted for 72% of use of force subjects in 2013, and 80% in 2015. People of color also accounted for 71% of those who were reported to have sustained an injury as a result of the use of force over this three-year period.
