Nassau County Mask Ban Signed into Law
Civil Liberties Union
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the New York Civil Liberties Union’s Nassau County Chapter and Hofstra University will host hundreds of local high school students at a biennial conference in Hempstead on the importance of civil rights and liberties.
The Student Conference on the 3R’s: Rights, Responsibilities and Remedies will feature a keynote address by Frank LoMonte, a Nassau County native and the executive director of the Student Press Law Center in Arlington, Va., the nation’s only legal assistance organization dedicated solely to educating high school and college students about the rights and responsibilities embodied in the First Amendment.
The conference also will feature small workshops where students and teachers will debate and discuss a variety of civil liberties issues, including privacy rights, cyberstalking and bullying, freedom of speech and religion, and how to interact with police officers. These sessions will be moderated by attorneys, professors and civil libertarians.
