NYCLU Comment on Trump Administration’s New Gag Rule

NEW YORK – The Trump administration today issued the text of a proposed new rule to block federal funding from family planning organizations that provide or refer patients for abortion or related reproductive healthcare services. 

 

The New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement from executive director Donna Lieberman:

 

“The new gag rule is a coercive and dangerous policy that directly attacks women. Putting the government in between patients and their healthcare providers cuts off access to not just abortions and contraceptive care, but also critical life-saving interventions like cancer screenings and other vital care. New York will stand up to the Trump administration’s latest attack on women’s rights, which puts the health and lives of countless people at risk.”
