NYCLU Condemns Border Czar Tom Homan’s Anti-Immigrant Rochester Visit 

ROCHESTER, NY — Following Trump’s baseless lawsuit filing against the City of Rochester over immigration enforcement yesterday, Border Czar Tom Homan is visiting Rochester today to attack the city’s sanctuary city policies. In response, the New York Civil Liberties Union issued the following statement, attributable to organizer Shay Herbert:

“Straight out of the Trump playbook, Tom Homan is trying to manufacture a fake crisis as a way to coerce Rochester into cooperating with his cruel mass deportation agenda. It won’t work.

“Commandeering local police as ICE agents does nothing to make communities safer. In reality, it rips families apart, puts communities in danger, and diverts local officers’ attention and resources. In fact, crime is lower in sanctuary cities like Rochester because officers focus on their jobs, not on carrying out hostile immigration policies.

“The city of Rochester has zero obligation to do ICE’s bidding – and it’s unconstitutional for Trump or Homan to try to force them to do so. No amount of bullying will change that.”
