NYCLU on Reelection of Donald Trump
Civil Liberties Union
NEW YORK CITY – In response to tonight’s Trump campaign rally at Madison Square Garden, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement attributable to NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman:
“The New York Civil Liberties Union is a non-partisan organization that does not endorse candidates for office. That does not mean we stay silent when a major political rally in New York City platforms racism and misogyny. Tonight, Trump and his surrogates peddled hatred and bigotry against immigrants, Latinos, women, Muslims, and Black people. All New Yorkers must reject such hate.
“And once again, Trump led with his favorite political ploy: Fearmongering on crime and immigration. On these issues, New Yorkers see through Donald Trump. We know from research we conducted that New York’s battleground voters want real, preventive, and comprehensive supports for our communities – not cynically divisive, Trumpian plans that begin and end with cruelty, force, and punishment.
“Whatever happens in the election, whatever the threats, the NYCLU will always fight for New Yorkers’ rights and our democracy.”
