NYCLU on Court Ruling Pausing Buffalo’s Kensington Expressway Project
Civil Liberties Union
NASSAU COUNTY – In response to remarks by Former President Donald Trump tonight at a rally in Nassau County, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement by Executive Director Donna Lieberman:
“Tonight we heard the usual waterfall of lies, racism, and cruelty from Donald Trump. When he spoke about New York, Trump used his two favorite political ploys: Fearmongering on crime and immigration.
“On both issues, New Yorkers see through Donald Trump. We know from our research in the state’s battleground districts that New Yorkers want real, comprehensive support for their communities. They don’t want the cynical, failed, Trumpian plans for harsher and harsher policing and punishment.
“The hope of a better life for ourselves, our families, and our communities is a hope all New Yorkers share. Trump’s racist demonization of immigrants shows he can’t understand that. He’ll never understand that this hope is the reason our state has a proud legacy of welcoming migrants who, in countless ways, have always made New York what it is. Immigrants build up our communities, our culture, and invigorate our economy.
“The NYCLU is ready to fight a new Trump administration’s anti-immigrant agenda once again, and win– including any attempt to deputize local officials for Trump’s cruel deportation machine. We will keep up our fight for transparent, accountable policing and for solutions that water the roots of public safety – housing, health care, jobs, and community.”
