NYCLU on Trump’s Probes of NY Schools Over Transgender Athlete Policy

NEW YORK – The Trump administration opened yesterday investigations into the New York City’s public school system and the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District for allowing students to participate in sports in line with their gender identity. In response, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement attributable to Education Counsel Emma Hulse: 

“These groundless probes are yet another escalation in the Trump regime’s attack on the rights of transgender youth.  

“Let’s be clear: these investigations do not change New York law, which protects trans students’ rights to join sport teams consistent with their gender identity.  

“All New York students — transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students included — deserve to be their full selves at school, free from discrimination.”
