SACKETS HARBOR – Today the community in Sackets Harbor, New York will rally in support of a local family with young children taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and held thousands of miles away. The rally will take place near the Sackets Harbor home of U.S. ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan, who has deflected concern and anger from neighbors over the raid. In response, the New York Civil Liberties Union issued the following statement from Executive Director Donna Lieberman:
“The NYCLU stands with the residents of Sackets Harbor today as they rally against Tom Homan’s cruelty toward immigrant New Yorkers, including those in the place he calls home. It is an outrage that Homan’s ICE agents would terrorize a Sackets Harbor family with young children, no less a family that has been following the immigration process, and cruelly spirit them thousands of miles away from home.
“The community is reeling, neighbors are heartbroken, coworkers are fearful, and school officials are distraught. We join the community in demanding the family’s release and calling out Homan’s war on immigrants, even his own neighbors.”
