The New York for All Act vs. Governor Hochul's "Local Cops Local Crimes" Bill
Civil Liberties Union
Every New Yorker has the right to safe drinking water. But lead pipes are putting the health and safety of an untold number of New Yorkers at risk. To ensure everyone’s water is free from lead contamination, New York State has an obligation to monitor the water supply effectively, notify residents immediately if they are at risk, and provide short-term solutions, such as filters. But New York must also take action to remove one of the most common sources of lead from its drinking water by replacing lead service lines.
The Lead Pipe Replacement Act (A.7878 Paulin/S.6892 Rivera) amends the public health law to establish a statewide plan to replace all of New York’s lead service lines by 2037 at no direct cost to customers. Generations of families – especially Black and Brown New Yorkers – will benefit from this urgent update to our dangerous infrastructure.
