Making Reparations a Reality in New York

In December 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill making New York the second state in the nation to formally commit to studying reparations. Reparations are amends for a documented wrong. They are not a new or radical idea. The United States has paid reparations to Native American tribes, Japanese Americans, and Black farmers. The question is not whether redress is possible. It is whether we have the will to extend it to Black New Yorkers.
