Support Clean Air in Schools

In 2024, New York took a major step towards protecting our students from over exposure to toxic air by passing the Schools Impacted by Gross Highways Act (SIGH Act) into law. The SIGH Act helps protect students from air pollution by preventing new schools from being built within 500 feet of a major highway. This was an enormous step towards dismantling the unjust system of environmental racism that has forced mostly Black and Brown students to breathe toxic air every day at school. The SIGH Act is forward-looking but does not address the more than 375 schools that are already built within 500 feet of major roads.
