Comments on the Future Land Use of the Newly Created Land Around I-81

The New York Civil Liberties Union submitted the following comments on the future land use of the newly created land around I-81. The newly developable land will create significant changes for the community that has long born the burdens of living next to it. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) must take action to ensure that the future land use of the area around I-81 does not displace the Black residents that live close to the area. To that end, the New York Civil Liberties Union wrote to urge that NYSDOT follow the lead of other Departments of Transportation and retain control of the future available land and distribute the land with protections to prevent displacement.
