Testimony on Data Privacy and Consumer Protections

The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) submitted testimony regarding Data Privacy and Consumer Protections on October 14, 2025 before the Assembly Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection and the Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology. The testimony described the critical need for comprehensive consumer data privacy protections, and began to name the complex legal considerations at stake. The NYCLU recommends that the New York Assembly extend the approach it has already taken to both young people’s information and electronic health data to all consumer data.
