Testimony Before the Nassau County Legislature Regarding Proposed Bill # 89-25
The New York Civil Liberties Union respectfully submits the following testimony regarding bill # 89-25, giving police and other first responders the power to create a fifteen (15) foot floating exclusion zone. Nassau County once again attacks the basic freedoms of its own residents, this time with a police secrecy and crowd control measure intended to disrupt peaceful assembly and shield law enforcement activity from public observation. Bill No. 89-25 would give police and other first responders the power to create, with a few verbal warnings, a fifteen (15) foot floating exclusion zone into which only other first responders may set foot. Entering or remaining after a warning to disperse would be a misdemeanor punishable by fines and up to a year in jail.
