Subject: A.2563/Glick S.6177/Montgomery AN ACT to amend the civil rights law, in relation to authorizing funeral or bereavement leave for same-sex committed partners Position: Support

Subject: A.2678/Gottfried et al. AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to discrimination because of sexual orientation. Position: SUPPORT This bill was passed in the Assembly and delivered to the Senate, where it was referred to the Insurance Committee. The bill was stalled in committee and did not pass in the 2005 legislative session.

Subject: A.187-A/ Sidikman, et al. AN ACT to amend the civil rights law, in relation to providing a civil remedy for victims of bias-related violence or intimidations. Position: Support This bill would provide the missing legal mechanism for victims of bias-related violence or intimidation to initiate a civil action against the perpetrator. It would also provide for the reimbursement of reasonable attorney’s fees.

Subject: A.2678/Gottfried et al. S.719/Goodman AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to discrimination because of sexual orientation. Position: Support This bill would amend the insurance law to prevent insurance companies from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. The New York Civil Liberties Union strongly supports equal protection under the law for gays, lesbians and bisexuals and we strongly urge the passage of this bill.

Subject: A.3252/ Peoples et al. AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to time for filing a complaint with the state division of human rights. Position: SUPPORT This bill amends the executive law to increase the time for filing a complaint with the Division of Human Rights from one to three years.

Subject: A.1573 / S.1038 Hate Crimes Bill Position: Does Not Go Far Enough AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, the penal law and the civil rights law, in relation to strengthening civil rights protections and to make bias related violence or intimidation a criminal offense.

Subject: S.1342/ Winner et al. A.2856/ Gottfried et al. AN ACT to amend the public health law in relation to establishing the age-appropriate sex education grant program, to be referred to as the Healthy Teens Act. Position: SUPPORT The Healthy Teens Act This bill, the Healthy Teens Act, would award funding for school districts, boards of cooperative education services and community-based organizations to provide comprehensive sex education programs for young people. The NYCLU strongly supports this legislation.
