Civilian Trials, Military Tribunals & Terrorism:
A Panel Discussion
Should accused terrorists be tried in criminal or military courts? The New York Civil Liberties Union and the Rochester Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society are holding a panel discussion and debate on this important subject. You're invited.
The Obama administration is coming under a lot of new pressure to abandon its commitment to help restore the rule of law by trying the 9/11 defendants in federal criminal court. Dick Cheney, some local politicians, and a host of members of Congress are trying to pressure the administration into returning the alleged 9/11 terrorist trials back into military commissions.
Join the NYCLU and the Federalist Society as we debate this urgent matter. Recently proposed bills and amendments introduced in Congress would prohibit the use of Justice Department funds to prosecute accused terrorists in the civilian justice system. Does that make sense?
Join us Tuesday, March 16 at 5 pm at the Downtown Presbyterian Church, located at 121 North Fitzhugh St. in Rochester.

The Genesee Valley Chapter hosted a summit of leaders and representatives of immigrant rights group in Rochester on Nov. 10. The participants represented organizations from central and western New York.
The idea for the summit was hatched when Frances Liu from the New York Immigrant Coalition visited Rochester in July and asked the chapter to set-up a meeting with local immigrant rights representatives and advocates. -- Click here to read more.
