The NYCLU, the ACLU, and the National Center for Youth Law asked the New York Appellate Court for permission to file an amicus brief supporting a parent who has been subjected to unrestrained supervision from New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) solely because of her status as a domestic violence survivor. The NYCLU brief argues that the family court’s supervision order authorized limitless state surveillance of the parent’s home and her child, absent probable cause in violation of the Fourth Amendment and the New York Constitution.
