Transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary New Yorkers deserve access to identity documents that reflect who they are and enable them to participate fully in society. Inaccurate identity documents can lead to harassment and abuse, particularly from police. The Gender Recognition Act would ensure that X gender markers are available on all New York identity documents and create a privacy-protective, streamlined, and non-stigmatizing process for people to change the names and gender markers on their identity documents.
