Monday: Border Patrol Rally, Film Festival to Support Immigrants’ Rights
On Monday, local immigrants’ rights advocates will rally at the U.S. Border Patrol station in Rochester for comprehensive immigration reform and the fair and equal treatment of the area’s farm workers. The demonstration will commemorate the 61st anniversary of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In calling for reform, the protestors will demand an end to unwarranted raids and needless detentions that have terrorized the local immigrant community.
On Monday, local immigrants’ rights advocates will rally at the U.S. Border Patrol station in Rochester for comprehensive immigration reform and the fair and equal treatment of the area’s farm workers.
The demonstration will commemorate the 61st anniversary of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In calling for reform, the protestors will demand an end to unwarranted raids and needless detentions that have terrorized the local immigrant community.
Monday evening, the Harvesting Justice Film Festival kicks off at the Little Theater in Rochester with a screening of The Visitor, which tells the story of a college professor who travels to New York City to attend a conference and finds a young couple – both undocumented immigrants – living in his apartment. The annual film festival raises awareness of the challenges facing farm workers and in intended to foster discussion of immigrant’s rights issues. Advocate David Fraccaro will lead a discussion following the film. He will be joined by a former detainee in the U.S. immigration system.
